What is laser hair removal, and how does it work?
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light to target the pigment within a hair follicle. The light is converted into heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair. Surrounding skin is protected through carefully selected settings and integrated cooling.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser treatment provides long-term or permanent hair reduction, but it cannot guarantee that every hair will disappear forever. Any regrowth is often finer, lighter, and less noticeable. Hormonal changes may stimulate new hair, so occasional maintenance treatments may be needed.
Can laser hair removal be used on all skin types?
Yes. Our GentleMax Pro Plus allows us to treat Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI. Its 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength is generally used for lighter skin tones, while the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is designed for deeper skin tones. Settings are personalized after assessing your skin and hair.
What technology does ECK Laser use?
We use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus, a medical-grade platform combining 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG lasers. This allows us to personalize treatment for different skin tones, hair types, and body areas. Its Dynamic Cooling Device helps protect the skin and improve comfort.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients should plan for approximately six to eight sessions, although the number varies by treatment area, skin tone, hair thickness, hormones, and individual response. Treatments are usually spaced several weeks apart because hair grows in cycles. Hormonal facial hair may require additional sessions or maintenance.
Is laser hair removal painful, and is there downtime?
Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap, warm pinprick, or mild heat. The GentleMax Pro Plus applies a cooling burst with each pulse to improve comfort and protect the skin. Mild redness or swelling may occur, but most patients return to normal activities immediately.
What are the risks and possible side effects?
Temporary redness, swelling, and tenderness are the most common effects and usually resolve within a few days. Less common risks include blistering, burns, infection, scarring, a herpes outbreak, or temporary or permanent skin-color changes. Proper screening, personalized settings, and aftercare reduce these risks.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
Avoid tanning, sunless tanners, waxing, and plucking before treatment; shaving is preferred. Tell us about medications, recent isotretinoin use, cold sores, scarring, skin irritation, and recent sun exposure. Tattoos will be covered and not treated directly, and sun protection is important after treatment.
Can laser hair removal help with PCOS or hormonal hair growth?
Yes, laser can reduce existing dark, pigmented hair caused by PCOS or other hormonal conditions. However, it does not correct the underlying hormonal cause, and new hair may continue to develop.
